Dedicated to the Bassett family that lived in Ashover who were famous for their liquorice sweets. The hint of liquorice brings this stout alive and provides a refreshing mouthful of a traditional stout beer with an extra aniseed hit. Ashover's Liquorice beer is a smooth stout with a soft after taste. Brewed annually it is one of Janine’s, their head brewer, favourite and making it with the whole root and not just flavourings is a big part in Janine’s brewing ethos of natural flavour. All their beers are named after Ashover land marks, Ashover people locally sourced produce or the hops used in the brewing of our lovingly crafted traditional ales. The term “stout” originally derives from being a “proud” or “brave”. But later years meant it took to mean that the beer was “strong” but it could also be used to describe a “dark” beer in whole. Liquorice is often used in the flavouring of food and drink and in Chinese medicine.
