Best Before Dates
What does the Best Before date mean?
Some of the products we sell are close to, or past, their Best Before date but what does that mean? In brief, the Best Before date is an informed estimate by the brewery or importer of when the quality of the beer may start to deteriorate.
Some breweries, however, use this date to indicate when the character of the beer may start to alter. Sadly a few set this artificially short purely for commercial reasons.
This date is, therefore, not when beer should be removed from sale, and it is most certainly not any indication that it should be discarded.
We find Best Before are often confused with Use By dates. These refer to safety and are found on food that goes off quickly, such as fish and meat products. Maison Du Biere sells no products that are subject to Use By labelling requirements.
